Student Design Award in conjunction with the Annual Symposium

The Student Design Award is an integral part of the Annual Symposium of the Costume Society and not open to the public.

A Fashion course from an Art School is chosen to participate through its locality to the venue of the Symposium. A design brief is set based on the theme of the Symposium to encourage and inspire the students to visit the local museums and galleries for their research work, all with the co-operation of the tutors to suit their very tight course programmes.

Two visits are made, firstly to talk about the Costume Society and the Symposium theme and to set the project, the second visit to view the made garments and to choose the 8 students who will show their outfits on models while discussing their designs, aims and inspiration.

The Student Design Award project culminates in a 1 hour catwalk show during the Symposium.

An award of £250.00 is presented to the winner.
